THE ORGANISATION
Christian Television Australia is a non-profit tax-exempt organisation owned and directed by Australian churches. Currently these churches include the Queensland Baptists, the Presbyterian Church of Australia, the Uniting Church in Australia Queensland Synod and the Assemblies of God churches across Australia.
Australian churches became involved in the production of programmes for commercial television stations in the late 1950’s. Formerly known as the Christian Television Association, the organisation has been active in television production for over 50 years.
The member churches of CTA appoint representatives to a governing Board of Directors. This group is a mix of clergy and lay people experienced in areas of theology, financial management and the media. The Board must answer to its member churches for the operation of the organisation and the content of its broadcasts. The finances are audited annually by the accountancy firm MSI Taylor.
The member churches of CTA contribute funds towards the organisation’s running costs. CTA does not use its television programmes to solicit funding.
Historically, CTA has been involved in the production of weekly half-hour studio programmes, and telespots (Christian ads) which are screened during regular commercial breaks. Recent years have seen CTA partner with other organisations to supply feature documentaries and seasonal specials for broadcast.
People who respond to CTA programs or advertising are referred to christian church organisations for follow-up care and support.
